Salisbury Young Artist of The Year 2025

Opened by

His Worship the Mayor of Salisbury – Councillor John Wells.

WINNER: 1st PLACE

Awarded to Alyssa Jarc of South Wilts Grammar School

With her very original piece titled ‘My 2 Year Old Could Have Done That’
A fabulous work with a great mix of traditional techniques fused with an overlaying contemporary twist, through the use of a separate perspex sheet containing graffiti and a slight mockery to the central little boy, who underneath has no berry, cuff or paintbrush! We also had to smile at the title!
Once again huge congratulations to Alyssa and we are sure the school will proudly display the glass trophy until it’s need back for the 2026 awards, with more schools involved raising the competition levels even higher.
Exhibition now showcasing in the gallery until Sunday 2nd November.

In 2nd PLACE

Awarded to MATILDA PALMER of Godolphin School.

We thoroughly enjoyed her set of three portraits on linen canvas.

With her particular interest to the use of tone throughout each piece. With a simple background pushing the portrait to the forefront for the viewer. Clearly an extremely accomplished artist in the making.
Exhibition now showcasing in the gallery until Sunday 2nd November.

IN 3rd PLACE

Big Congratulations to Ben Dennis of Bishop Wordsworth’s School.

We admired Ben’s Lilly Pond original painting on paper.

We especially enjoyed his use of colour and texture throughout the work. Let’s be fair this painting complete with frame would not look out of place in any good gallery today. Very good job Ben, well done.
Exhibition now showcasing in the gallery until Sunday 2nd November.

Trevor Horswell, the Curator of Gallery 21 is delighted to announce Gallery 21 of the ‘Official Sponsorship’ of this being the 1st year of it’s conception. It was as a consequence of Trevor supporting local artists, who over time have become international, best sellers of their genre, as to how he could further encourage the talents of the young younger artist within the local school community. Whilst at the same time, giving the schools, as well as their pupils an additional opportunity to further evolve and express their talent within their chosen medium. The size of their canvas, board, metal or fabric being no larger than A1, the size of a standard poster and of course smaller if preferred.

With the beginning of the Autumn Term the 4 schools who are going to launch the start of this annual competition for young artists who are pupils at the local schools, will soon be being judged by their teachers as to the best pupils able to represent their schools. The 16 to 18 year olds from, The Godolphin School , Sarum Academy, Bishop Wordsworth’s School, and South Wiltshire Grammar School having completed their GCSE or A level exams so they can now present their paintings and participate in the competition. As well as Gallery 21 donating the perpetual trophy and the selected 1st, 2nd, 3rd and runner up will each receive a professional artist kit to encourage their artistic dreams.
